Another Revision - Week 9

Another Revision Week 9, Reading Task By using the feedback I had received from my peers, I took in the advice and feedback and improved my blog by rewriting it. I found the feedback I got quite useful and insightful. I noticed when I was rewriting my blog, I had found many different ways to improve my writing and the overall quality of my work.

Media Compression - Week 9

Media Compression Week 9, Video Task In this week’s video task, we learned a lot about media compression. Media compression is essentially the discarding of information from an image, video, or audio file to reduce its size. The higher the compression, the lower the quality. All videos are a combination of images and audio. An individual image in a video is called a frame. There can be up to 25 to 30 frames displayed in a single second of a video, this can also be called frame-rate. The more frames or higher frame-rate, the higher the quality of the video but it becomes a bigger file size. [Reference: “Video Compression as Fast As Possible” - Techquickie Video Compression as Fast As Possible ] In this first video, Taran explains the importance of video compression and how it works.  Video compression is an important aspect of how streaming websites work, such as Youtube. Without compression, the file size is significantly larger. For example, a five-minute video can be up to ...

Rewrite #2 - Week 9

Rewrite #2  Week 9, Rewrite #2 In the first video I watched, ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OseOb_wBsi4 ) “The Medium is the Message”, Dan Olsen gave us a better understanding of what the phrase “the medium is the message” actually means.  Dan firstly starts off by referencing McLuhan’s own words “This is merely to say that the personal and social consequences of any medium - that is, of any extension of ourselves - result from the new scale that is introduced into our affairs by each extension of ourselves…”. Initially to me, this meant that we don’t actually look at the real meaning of a medium, we use a projectile of ourselves to form a message for the medium. Dan explains that the mediums have a far greater impact on the fundamental shape and nature of society than any message that is delivered through that medium. Dan then gives us plenty of examples and I can see understand what he means. For example, Dan states that trains, cars, and airplanes build and structure our...

Peer Review #2 - Week 8

Peer Review #2 Week 8, Reading Task I had quickly come to a realisation that I thoroughly enjoy reading other people’s blogs. I find myself super engaged and interesting when I am reading them.  I had learned a lot about how people structure their blogs and how different everyone’s writing styles are. It taught me a lot about how I would be able to structure my blogs when in the upcoming future.  I also had learnt that giving feedback and receiving feedback work hand in hand together. While reading the article “The Power of Giving Feedback and Receiving Feedback in Peer Assessment” by Lan Li and Valentina Grion, I had learned a lot of new things and information I had found useful and interesting.  In 2001, Althauser and Darnall conducted an online peer assessment activity. The data that was formed showed that the better the quality of the feedback the students provided, the higher grades they received for their own revised essays. The conclusion was that students re...

Starting Out - Week 5

Starting Out Week 5, Project Task  The topic of the project my group and I will be doing is “My Cyborg Future”. This topic is about the future of technology, artificial intelligence, and synthetic body parts.  I choose this topic because I am invested in learning about the changes and development of technology in our future. I like the debate of whether or not AI or robots will take over and just how far technology can develop.  While researching this topic, I have learned a lot of information I did not know before researching. I learned a lot about how synthetic body parts work and how they can help a person regain function. I find it extremely fascinating to see how our body can connect with a synthetic part.  What interests me most is seeing how becoming part cyborg can extend our human potential. I am curious about if in the future people would be willing to install a synthetic part into themself and that if our world will become so advanced and rely on technolog...

Peer Review #1

Peer Review #1 Week 5, Reading Task  For this week's reading task, we were asked to review a blog from 2 of our peers. I had received two blogs that I found very well written and it was interesting and insightful to see how they differed from mine and each other.  I learned a lot from reading these blogs by my fellow classmates. I learned that people have very different writing styles even if it is writing on the same topic and I personally found that really engaging.  I also learned that everything can always use some constructive criticism or advice. Although the blogs I have read were exceptional and written great, there was still room for improvement.  I had also compared my peer's blogs and my blogs to gain insight on how I can also improve my blogs. Their blogs also helped me how to reference since I found it difficult to insert references into my blogs. The blogs I read taught me a lot about how people's opinions can differ so much and it was interesting to re...

Technological Evolution - Week 8

Image
Technological Evolution Week 8, Video Task This week’s blog required us to watch 5 different videos in relation to the evolution of technology, the history, and the future of the media and digital world. Living in the 21st Century is a privilege to have so much technology at our hands in our day-to-day life.   [Reference: “Technology Evolution | 100,000 BC - 2020” - WatchMedia Technology Evolution | 100,000 BC - 2020 ] In this video, we are shown the discoveries of many different things throughout the years from something as simple as fire to supercomputers. It is really fascinating to see when things were discovered as the ages also changed. I find it very impressive how humanity has developed in the time that we have been given.  [Reference: “History of Media Literacy, Part 1: Crash Course Media Literacy #2” - CrashCourse History of Media Literacy, Part 1: Crash Course Media Literacy #2 ] In this video, Jay spoke a lot about where media literacy was rooted from. I...

Revising Writing - Week 6

Revising Writing Week 6, Reading Task I found the feedback I got from my peers quite useful. The feedback they gave me was very helpful. All three Ella, Christelle, and Kate gave me a full breakdown of my blog letting me know what I did well but also what I could improve and add to it.  I enjoyed reading their feedback and getting insight from other people. All the feedback I got was super kind and I will definitely be using their advice in my upcoming blogs.  I learned that I have not been using references in my previous blogs but after the feedback, I was given extremely helpful advice on how to reference since I was struggling on how to reference in my blogs

Rewrite #1

Rewrite #1 Week 6, Rewrite #1 In the series of videos that I watched, I learned many study skills from them to set myself up for success and make my college life a little bit easier. [Reference: "The 3 BEST science-based study tips" - Mike and Matty https://youtu.be/UEJmgaFQUH8] In the first video, 'The 3 Best science-based study tips' uses many different resources from universities and professional studies. Mike states that he is a doctor working in California. He shows evidence-based learning strategies about how to study for exams and how to train our brains effectively while backing everything up by science.  What I learned is that the more brainpower and effort one uses, the more retention one will get. This is because you can learn more under difficult conditions since it would be harder to forget. This had made me realise why many people in my life had told me that trying to study lying down or on your bed won't work as well, this now makes sense as to why...
